Dear parents and friends,

With the start of the school year upon us, we welcome our families back to Socrates-Démosthène and, for those joining us for the first time, welcome to our Family.

Obviously 2020 will be like no other. Our goal remains to overcome the obstacles as we enrich and stimulate our students, your children, with an education second to none. We are in the process of applying the Ministry of Education’s Plan de la rentrée, assuring we respect all directives from the Québec Public health authority and finalizing internal logistics and organizational details.

Not everything will be perfect when the children come back and chances are we will have to make adjustments. Common sense, flexibility and attention to detail should prevail for everyone. The most important thing is that our students and staff remain healthy and safe.

The Ministry of Education (MÉES) has made great efforts to assure that the upcoming school year will be as normal as possible, in conditions that are nothing but. As has been mentioned, for MÉES, the return of children and adolescents to class is crucial to their development. Everything possible will be done to assure their health without harming their education.

We know that some of our families have to deal with particular circumstances and conditions during this pandemic. Our School and the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal have always done and will continue to do their utmost to assist them, respecting the prescribed directives and guidelines from the authorities.

We have prepared a start of the school year package of information for all our families. It is posted on our portal for your review and acknowledgement. It will also be available in hard-copy format at every campus, should you prefer. It is imperative to take the time to read the directives, guidelines, and major programs Socrates-Démosthène will be offering your children this year.

Furthermore, you have and will be receiving documentation from your respective campuses on the local protocols and procedures that we urge you to familiarize yourselves with and respect.

Please take note of the two documents below, from the Québec Government about back-to-school COVID-19 protocols. We would like to add that the use of the mask for your children will be allowed anywhere if it is your choice.

We would like to remind you that all our students and their families that have traveled outside Canada during the summer must mandatorily quarantine for 14 days upon their return.

We look forward to having our students back in class and we are confident we will have a safe and productive school year.

We extend our sincerest regards,

The Director General,

Chris Adamopoulos
