Dear Parents,
Like every year, we will be celebrating our Greek National Holiday (25th of March 1821) and our School will be participating in the following events:

 DINNER – WREATH LAYING – DOXOLOGY – PARADE – RECEPTION

FRIDAY, MARCH 23RD, 2018 ─ GREEK INDEPENDENCE DAY DINNER
7:00 p.m. – Adrian Maris Hellenic Community Center, 5757 Wilderton Avenue in Montreal. For tickets (cost: $ 25), please call 514-738-2421, ext. 231.
SATURDAY, MARCH 24TH, 2018 – OFFICIAL WREATH LAYING CEREMONY 
Participation:    Flag carriers, assistants and drummers from all the Socrates-Démosthène campuses.
Program:
11:30 a.m. – The students of SOC II-III-IV will gather at the gym of the Adrian Maris Hellenic Community Center situated at 5757 Wilderton Avenue in Montreal; the students of SOC V and DÉM will gather in the gym of Démosthène Campus, 1565 St-Martin West.
12:00 p.m. – The students will be driven by bus to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at 1 Place du     Souvenir, near Laval City Hall.
1:00 p.m. – Official Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
2:00 p.m. – The students of SOC II-III-IV will be driven back to the Adrian Maris Hellenic Community Center where they must be picked up by their parents; the students of SOC V and DEM return to Démosthène Campus.
SUNDAY, MARCH 25TH, 2018 – DOXOLOGY
Participation:     Flag carriers and assistants of all the campuses (II-III-IV-V-DEM).
Program:
10:30 a.m. – The students will gather in the basement of the “Evangelismos Church” situated at 777 Saint-Roch in Park Extension.
12:00 p.m. – After the doxology, the students will be driven to Hutchison, corner Jean-Talon so   that    they can take place in the parade.
SUNDAY, MARCH 25TH, 2018 – PARADE
Participation: Flag carriers and assistants of all the campuses (II-III-IV-V-DEM), all drum corps, all students from grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 (optional for students in kindergarten).
Program:
10:00 a.m. – All drummers from campuses II-III-V-DEM have to go to the Adrian Maris Hellenic Community Center situated on 5757, Wilderton Avenue in Montreal to pick up their drums.
11:00 a.m. – The drummers will be driven by bus to the corner of Jean-Talon and Hutchison.
12:00 p.m. – All other students from campuses II-III-IV-V, have to go to Hutchison (between Beaumont and Jean-Talon); there is no bus service for these students.
1:00 p.m. – Beginning of parade.
2:00 p.m. – Parade will end on Birnam between Ogilvy and Jean Talon. Parents are asked to pick up their children along Birnam towards Ogilvy. The drummers will return by bus to the Adrian Maris Hellenic Community Center where their parents must pick them up.

DRESS CODE:

The flag carriers, assistants and drummers must wear the formal school uniform. The students from grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 must wear the school uniform or an ethnic costume. It is strongly recommended that the children from kindergarten wear ethnic costumes to add color to the parade. All students must wear white gloves, dark shoes (no running shoes), and dress according to weather conditions. If it is very cold or if there is heavy snowfall, children should wear their coat, their hat and boots. If there is heavy rainfall, children are advised to wear a raincoat or carry an umbrella.
N.B. Those arriving by automobile are encouraged to park their vehicle in the Beaumont Shopping Center situated at the corner of Beaumont and l’Acadie. All students of École Socrates-Demosthène are obliged to participate at the parade.

SUNDAY, MARCH 25TH, 2018 ─ GREEK INDEPENDENCE RECEPTION
6:30 p.m. – A no-charge cocktail hosted by the HCGM and the General Consul of Greece at the Adrian Maris Hellenic Community Center, 5757 Wilderton Avenue in Montreal.
