Last Friday, September 16th, was the first pedagogical day for our school. It was quite a busy day for the members of our school teams. Since professional development is an integral part of the École Socrates-Démosthène, on each pedagogical day, when our staff are not in class or preparing another element of the program, they are constantly in training, whether in pedagogy, technology, or even first aid. Here are this year’s events:
  • First aid training
  • After School Program (SÉP)
  • The Greek program meeting
  • Staff meeting by sector on all campuses

First Aid Training

The general first aid course, which is given every year, took place at the head office  building. This training covered first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). Teachers from preschool to high school, bus drivers, lunchtime counselors, after-school educators, our entire school environment was represented. The course also included a component on the management of severe allergic reactions (such as the administration of Epipen). The training lasted a whole day. It was given in two languages (French and English) by Kelly Angel. She took the time to answer ALL questions with patience and kindness.  Everything took place in a friendly atmosphere. Many thanks, Mrs. Kelly!

The After School Program

At the SÉP, this day was enhanced by the magnificent creations of the students. This day was marked by apple season on all campuses! Several manual and culinary activities were thus organized. The students were able to make paper decorations in the shape of apples and baskets of apples. They were also treated to a tasting of several types of apples to delight their palate. In addition, for each pedagogical day, the daycare service remains open to welcome students and offers fun activities.

The Greek program meeting

At the Socrates II campus, a meeting was held with the head of the Greek program, Mrs. Georgia Tsakalis, director of the Socrates II campus and all the teachers of the Greek language.
During this meeting, several points were reviewed, including:
  • The question on the teaching of oral and written Greek
  • Greek books and manuals
  • The possible introduction and context of Ancient Greek in the curriculum
It was a great meeting during which the teachers and the director were able to share their different experiences and skills in order to guarantee an excellent quality of teaching of the Greek language.

Staff meetings by cycle and sector

In addition to the meeting of the Greek program held at the campus of Socrates II, several meetings were held on each of the campuses of our School;
  • Meeting of 1st cycle teachers, coordinated by Ms. Sophie Boucher
  • Meeting of 2nd cycle teachers, coordinated by Ms. Lison Thibault
  • Meeting of 3rd cycle teachers, coordinated by Mr. Christos Filandrianos
  • Meeting of teachers from the English sector, coordinated by Ms. Mary Kanellopoulos
  • Meeting of preschool teachers, coordinated by Ms. Geneviève Cloutier
  • Meeting teachers of the physical education sector, coordinated by Mr. Chris Adamopoulos
These inter-campus meetings were constructive with excellent collaboration between all the teachers. It is also close-knit teams who together, during this day, shared their experiences, their knowledge and their expertise to be able to raise the academic level of the Socrates-Demosthenes School even higher!

Once again, we thank all of our staff for their dedication to our School!
