Athletics: Areus wins 9 medals
and get on the podium a 45th time this year!

Repentigny- The Socrates-Demosthenes Areus Athletics Club continues to make its mark in the world of athletics in Quebec. On April 28, the team had an appointment with several major athletics clubs. With 36 participants in the category of our athletes, it was the biggest indoor competition of the year! Our team has won 9 medals and has climbed the podium 45 times in only 4 competitions and a few months of existence.

Here are the results per event:

Sprint 40 m:
Nasir Pierre: Silver Medal
Anthony Papai: 8th place
Liam Papai: 9th place
Sprint specialist Nasir Pierre wins silver with a time of 6.06 seconds. A personal best for him. Anthony and Liam Papai finish 8th and 9th respectively. Our 3 athletes finish in the top 10.
 
Shot put :
Nasir Pierre: Silver Medal
Anthony Papai: Bronze Medal
Liam Papai: 4th place
Nasir Pierre continued to shatter his personal best. Indeed, he projected the weight of 3 kilograms at 9.55 m. This is his best result in competition so far. Anthony Papai, who specializes in the shot put, also had his best throw in the competition with a 9.48m throw. Nasir Pierre wins the silver and Anthony Papai the bronze. Liam Papai finished 4th with a throw of 8.30 m. Our 3 athletes finish in the top 5 positions.

Nasir Pierre won 2nd place with a time of 7.64 seconds. A personal best. After qualifying for the final, Liam Papai finished in 6th place with a time of 8.09 seconds. The 3 athletes in the top 10.

600 meters:
Nasir Pierre: Silver Medal
Liam Papai: 6th place
Anthony Papai: 9th place
With a time of 2: 00.29, Nasir Pierre took the silver medal. Liam Papai finished the race with a time of 2: 03.52, good for 6th place. Anthony Papai stopped the clock at 2: 06.30 and finished 9th. Once again, all our athletes in the top 10.

Long jump :
Nasir Pierre: Silver Medal
Liam Papai: 4th place
Anthony Papai: 5th place
With a jump of 2.30 meters, Nasir Pierre climbed on the 2nd step of the podium at 1 centimeter of the gold medal. Liam Papai skirts the podium with a jump of 2.12 meters. He finished 4th. Anthony Papai wins 5th position with a jump of 2.03 meters. Our 3 athletes finish in the top 5!

Combined 5 events (Pentathlon):
Nasir Pierre: Silver Medal
Liam Papai: Bronze medal
Anthony Papai: 7th place
In the cumulative results of the 5 events and a harvest of 35 points, Nasir Pierre raises the money. In third place with 17 points, Liam Papai gets the bronze. Anthony Papai finished 7th to finish another top 10 for our team.

With a few months of existence, the Athletics Club Areus of the Socrates-Demosthenes School already makes its place among the elite of athletics in Quebec. With the indoor season over, head coach Éric Bouchard will begin his summer season on June 2 with a regional championship in LaSalle.
